The New Order

In effect as of November, 66 A.O.C.

These Laws Shall Govern all Persons within Corsotha Under Martial Law of Ser Magnus Von.

In dire times when we have no one to rely on we must rely upon ourselves. To protect the people of Corsotha, the title of Patriarch is created, vest with all authority over Corsotha with exception to the Crown of Feragothe and the Sovereign Crown of Alessandria and their vassals. The weight of responsibility lies completely with the Patriarch regardless of who acts in his stead.

Article 1; Duty of the Patriarch: It is the duty of the Patriarch to ensure the safety and well being of Corsotha and its inhabitants with respect to Alessandrian laws. It is the duty of the Patriarch to make all military decisions, collect all taxes, oversee all business, be knowledgeable in arcane activities, uphold the beliefs of the Church of Light, commit labor and funds to public works and to react with poise and certainty any diplomatic relations or threat that presents itself.

Article 2; Magistrates The Patriarch may assign duties to persons of race represented in the Council of Peace. They will receive a written page detailing the function they are expected to perform be it a single task or a number of works. This office may or may not be a permanent Writ of Magistrate and may or may not consist of a wage and its amount is at the Patriarch's discretion. The Patriarch may dissolve any Writ of Magistrate at any time.

Article 3; Powers of the Magistrate: The office of Magistrate is an extension of the Patriarchs authority and thusly acts in his stead. The Magistrate answers to the Patriarch personally. Corsothian inhabitants are to treat and obey Magistrates in their duty as if they were the Patriarch himself. Conflicts of authority will be resolved by a third available Magistrate of the Patriarch himself. Any and all transactions that utilize the Treasury of Corsotha are to be submitted in writing and approve by the Patriarch before coin is withdrawn.

Magistrates are to default to the Patriarch in his presence, where they shall act as advisors, or in politics affecting outside of their specified duties. Magistrates may not create further Writs of Magistrates but may take on assistants at their own expense.

Article 4; Placement of a new Patriarch: In the case of the demise or resignation of a Patriarch, the Crown of Feragothe shall designate a replacement. If an emergency occurs the Magistrates shall elect one of their own to the position of Temporary Patriarch or Magistrate Superior. Fail this and The Watch will assume control of Corsotha until a new Patriarch is placed.

Article 5; Office of Marshal and its powers: The Patriarch may create the Office of the Marshal. This position's duty is to assemble any able bodied persons into a Corsothian Militia and to lead them into conflict. The Marshal's duties also extend to seeing to the care of prisoners and to see the capture or kill of any minor threat to Corsotha or her goods. This includes but is not limited to Thieves, rampant Droxa, or any other nuisance that does not require a military presence. This office will receive ten (10) copper and one (1) ration per month as payment. The Marshal may assign two others as his Lieutenants to act in his stead. They will receive five (5) copper and one (1) ration per month. Bonuses will be applied as the Patriarch sees fit

Article 6; Militia: The Militia is a part time civilian armed force assembled only when a need arises. Those who take up arms with the Militia will receive payment by eliminating threats to Corsotha. The pay will require proof of elimination be it a head or personal item. Per Trophy brought in will see the amount of coin raised. A lump sum will be given to the Marshal who will distribute it amongst those in the Militia who hold no other office.

Article 7; Trial: If a Trial is deemed necessary the Patriarch will preside as Judge and existing Magistrates will represent the Accused and the Protectorate of Corsotha. If no Magistrates are present, Writs of Magistrate will be issued until the completion of the Trial. Only a Patriarch of Nobility or a representative of The Watch may seek the penalty of Death. Only a representative of The Watch may carry out a Judgment of Death.

Those attempting to resurrect a criminal who has been executed will be tried for Treason of Law.

Article 8; Trade and Commerce: All persons seeking to do trade in Corsotha will be required to purchase a Charter of Trade and register with the Patriarch or assigned Magistrate. A Charter of Trade will allow persons to conduct business within Corsotha. Terms of these Charters will depend upon the life of the Charter. A Charter purchased for one (1) month will allow the holder to trade goods and services with the people of Corsotha and its businesses and not be taxed. A Lifetime Charter is a custom document that details all aspects of the business to be conducted but the holder must have a Store in town. All Charters may be written to specifications. The Patriarch may dissolve any Charter for reasons of Failure of Taxation, Trading with Persons of Known Ill Repute, or supplying the Enemies of Corsotha. Those conducting Trade without a Charter will have their goods seized until a Charter is purchased and a Fine paid.

All payment of Charters may either be coin or goods. Terms of agreement are at the discretion of the Patriarch.

Article 9; Amendments and Authority: This Charter for The Protectorate of Corsotha may be amended by any Patriarch but no Article may be removed unless by a Patriarch of Nobility who is a direct Vassal of the Crown of Feragothe or Alessandria.

May the Gods look favorably upon these Laws and grant us the Strength to enforce them.

    Signed,
    Ser Magnus Von Yintervel
    First Knight of Feragothe
    Master of The Watch
Patriarch of the Protectorate of Corsotha
